Physiotherapy and Shoulders
Physiotherapy aims to restore movement, strength and Pattern of shoulder movement. Proprioception (This is the system by which receptors in soft tissue and in joints send information to the brain about body position sense) is a key part of shoulder rehabilitation.
Muscle Patterning refers to inappropriate recruitment of some of the muscles of the shoulder. This can result in abnormal movements of the shoulder, often resulting in instability that surgery alone will fail to correct. This is also a common factor in patients who have failed conventional physiotherapy
