As a specialist shoulder and elbow surgeon my elective work is limited to that area although I take part in the general orthopaedic on call and operate on general trauma conditions. I have special interest in Tennis Elbow (lateral elbow pain) and have experience in arthroscopic treatment of the condition. Complex rotator cuff surgery is another special interest.

In my elective field, about 80% of my work is arthroscopic – both in the shoulder and in the elbow. Most of the work is also performed as day surgery. This means quicker return to work and usual activites for my patients.

I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Salford University, and teach in the Musculoskeletal courses offered by the university.

I am a member of the Orthopaedic Specialist Training committee in the North West Deanery.

My other major interest is IT. I am active at a regional and national level. I am the Secondary care lead for IT in the NHS North West, and attempting to lead and develop the understanding of Health Informatics enabled change within the North West.

I am a member of the HICAT, ensuring that the people of the North West enjoy better care, better health and a better life, through the innovative and efficient use of Information Technology.

I have also contributed to the National Clinical reference Panel for Choose and Book. This includes members from a wide range of clinical backgrounds including primary and secondary care clinicians.  The Royal Colleges, British Medical Association, National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, National Clinical Advisory Board etc are also represented. The panel meets every two months and contributes to the design of Choose and Book, making sure that it is clinically safe and fit for purpose
